Gum recession is when the gum tissue around a tooth pulls back, exposing more of the tooth or its root. It can be caused by gum disease, overzealous brushing, tooth grinding, misaligned bites or smoking — often a combination.
Treatment depends on the cause. We'll examine your gums and bite, take photos for comparison over time and tailor a plan that may include hygiene, brushing technique, mouthguards, fillings to protect exposed roots, or referral for gum graft surgery in more advanced cases.
